Cape Verde Animal Shelter Receives Large Donation From Book Your Pet
Book Your Pet’s team visited Associazione Nerina’s animal sanctuary in Cape Verde recently to deliver supplies to help support the team’s work.
Book Your Pet and its partners, Alison Goodwin, Steve Fowles, and others from Cheshire, UK, delivered the goods to the shelter in March.
Book Your Pet founders Ralph Anita and Ralph, as well as friends of Book Your Pet, contributed various items worth over $800.
Alison, when speaking about the donation, said: “A number of people do not realize that many airlines will allow you to take extra weight per person in your luggage if the charity and documentation are provided.
We did it because we didn’t pay anything and many people don’t know that.
Alison and Steve visited Associazione Nerina during their visit to learn more about what they do to support the island’s cats and dogs.
About Associazione Nerina’s Animal Shelter
The Association aims to protect and defend animals, especially domestic animals, against mistreatment and abandonment, as well as develop social solidarity between people and animals.
The shelter of the Association in Cape Verde was named after a mixed breed who had given birth to 3 litters by the time she turned two-and-a-half. The last litter of hers consisted of 5 puppies. She gave birth under a dumpster. Four of the five puppies were dead, leaving only one puppy to survive.
The Association’s team realized the local veterinary situation on the island after treating the little puppy, later named Puce.
Associazione Nerina was formed almost a full year after Nerina’s premature death. Its objectives were:
Construct a shelter for animals in need, with a veterinary clinic and large recovery zones.
Care, behavioral assessments, and pathways to rehousing or adoption are provided (these services are offered with AAB and give the essential requirements for moving stray animals from the streets to responsible adoption).
Funding neutering campaigns using foreign veterinarians.
The animal shelter should not be viewed as a place of detention but rather as a temporary setting that offers opportunities for the animals to connect with their new owners and also grow.
The Association is supported by the contributions of its volunteers, the generosity of its supporters, and the availability of its veterinarians.
Veterinarian Practice
Associazione Nerina offers free care and prevention campaigns in order to improve animal health, as well as animal-human interaction. The practice provides medicine, general surgery, vaccinations, and prophylactic deparasitization, as well as neutering campaigns.
Godparents
Associazione Nerina offers financial assistance to local animal adopters.
Financial support from the Association makes it easier to give a dog a new home and take care of his health without worrying about costs. The team at the animal shelter can also better track stray dogs’ health and their situation as benefactors.
The islanders also benefit from the reduction of diseases and strays.
Boarding Kennels
Shelters offer boarding kennels to house domestic cats and dogs for short-term stays.
The guest animals who stay at the shelter are fundamentally contributing to the sustainability of the project by helping their less fortunate companions.
